Families Against Cancer Together
Meet Fred and Bernice Peltier, proud parents of eight and doting grandparents to two adopted granddaughters, forming a close-knit family of ten. Their lives changed forever in 2006 when they lost their youngest daughter to breast cancer. Though they supported her through her battle, she ultimately succumbed to the disease. Just seven years later, in 2013, they faced another devastating loss when their second daughter died from uterine cancer.
These tragedies led the Peltier family to reflect on the systemic issues that contributed to their daughters' suffering, particularly the lack of accessible chemotherapy facilities in their rural area. The long journey for treatment drained their daughters physically and emotionally, highlighting the need for change.
Inspired by their daughters' struggles, the Peltier family created Families Against Cancer Together, an organization advocating for accessible cancer treatment in rural communities. They aimed to raise awareness and push for local chemotherapy units, hoping to prevent others from enduring similar heartbreak due to geographical barriers.
Through their shared grief, the Peltier family found strength in unity and transformed their pain into a mission for change, becoming a voice for those affected by cancer and offering hope for a future where no family feels helpless.
